Sustainability analysis and inspection of maritime infrastructure

For the Covestro site in the Port of Antwerp, SANACON conducted a specialized concrete survey of the jetty’s condition. Given its constant exposure to a harsh maritime environment and industrial loads, an accurate diagnosis of the concrete structure was essential to ensure safety and operational continuity.

Our approach:

  • Corrosion diagnosis: Performing chloride analyses at various depths to map salt ingress and the risk of reinforcement corrosion.

  • Condition assessment: Detailed visual inspection of the substructure and scaffold heads to identify damage such as crumbling and rust spots.

  • Non-destructive testing: Location of reinforcement and measurement of concrete cover to validate the remaining protection of the structure.

  • Remaining life advice: Based on the collected data, SANACON advised on necessary remedial measures and preventive protection techniques.

Result: SANACON’s technical report provided Covestro with an objective foundation for their asset management. Thanks to this study, maintenance work can be scheduled proactively and cost-effectively, significantly extending the lifespan of this vital supply route.
