The water tower on Leopoldlaan in Dendermonde, a protected monument dating from 1924, is a unique example of historic reinforced concrete. Commissioned by architect Arch&Teco and client Farys, SANACON conducted an in-depth damage assessment and stability study to secure the future of this structure.
Our approach:
Specialized Diagnosis: Investigation of the specific “Monnoyer” structure, combining visual inspections with laboratory analyses of reinforcement corrosion and carbonation.
Advanced Stability Study: Using digital calculation models, we accurately mapped the load-bearing capacity of the shaft and reservoir, taking into account the current condition of the concrete.
Restoration Design & Specifications: Based on the data, we formulated the principles for concrete restoration and drew up the technical specifications for the restoration.
By combining historical construction techniques with modern stability calculations, we provided a technical foundation for the restoration. This allows the water tower to be safely preserved while fully respecting its original architectural value.
