Preserving an architectural icon through innovative measuring techniques
The Royal Circus in Brussels is one of the capital’s most iconic event venues. To ensure the structural safety of this historic monument during major renovations and its daily operation, SANACON was commissioned to conduct specialized concrete research and long-term monitoring of the roof and grandstand structures.
Our approach: Precision research in a monumental context Given the historical value of the building and the specific roof construction, a non-destructive and data-driven approach was essential.
Key points of our expertise in this project:
Condition assessment of the concrete structure: SANACON conducted extensive inspections of the reinforced concrete structures, focusing on the carbonation depth and remaining concrete cover to assess long-term durability.
Advanced Crack Monitoring: During the various renovation phases, critical zones were equipped with high-precision sensors. These sensors monitor crack movement in real time to immediately detect the impact of environmental factors and loads.
Roof Structure Survey: Given the roof’s unique architecture, SANACON performed specialized measurements to verify the integrity of the supporting elements, essential for the safety of both audience members and performers.
Restoration Support: Our technical-scientific reports formed the basis for the restoration design, advising on compatible repair mortars and techniques that respect the historical aesthetics.
