What is bonded reinforcement?

Bonded reinforcement is a reinforcement technique in which strips or plates—usually made of carbon fiber (CFRP) or steel—are applied to the surface of an existing structure using a high-performance structural adhesive. This additional reinforcement increases the bending or shear capacity of the element without the need for extensive cutting or the casting of new reinforcement. It is a particularly suitable solution for existing concrete structures where rapid, minimally invasive, and aesthetically discreet reinforcement is desired.
